Record Of Tides
Record Of Tides is the stage name of acclaimed German multidisciplinary media artist Sven Piayda. Within the project he blends different musical styles and production methods moving between electronica, post hip-hop, avant-garde and post rock into post-genre while live performances are usually accompanied by his visuals and video installations. Piayda looks back on releases and gigs over two and a half decades and continues to stand out with his diverse sound – remaining both distinctive and trailblazing.
Piayda is an artist working with photography, video, sound and music, as well as computer-generated imagery and media-based objects designed for multiples. Having studied Arts, Crafts and Design at Essen University, Germany, technology plays a central role in all his works – serving as a carrier of meaning rather than an end in itself. His pieces often reference art and media history, engaging with postmodern ideas of remixing and reflecting the processes of image production and consumption. His works have been exhibited in galleries, museums, Kunstvereine (art clubs), off-spaces, and at film festivals – primarily in Germany, but also internationally.
Piayda has been recording and playing live with bands and projects of different musical styles such as Architects Of Utter Destruction, Penrose Delta, Dissident(en) Club, The Flamma Piayda Complex, Primal Scapes, Factor-4 feat. General Piayda, Mmaakkee, Renert Trio and AESTATE. He has released solo works as Record Of Tides, Sellafield., XCRMNTR (for one track), MCPMF (for a mixtape) and SVEN. Alongside independent work, he has collaborated with numerous artists and musicians.
By founding and running his label Zany Music, Piayda’s music has been released and reissued in different formats since 1999, even side projects are made available digitally. Piayda releases music via Kreislauf.org, Pinmusik, Crazy Language, Illphabetik, Digital Kunstrasen, Roberg Records, Component Recordings, Mahorka and his own label Zany Music. He lives and works in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany and Kirchberg Plateau, Luxembourg.
