Nuearz is a solo project of the Japanese artist Kazuhiro Okuda. He has released two albums, "Saturation Point" (2009) and "Face Lift" (2010), on the notorious UK label Skam Records. Additionally, he has put out the albums "Last Straw" and "Funny Bone" in 2017 on his own label Logica et Natura and participated in the compilation album "A Sign 2" on the Osaka label Remodel. The CDs released by Skam Records are notable (already considered classics) not only for the original Nuearz music but also for the designs by two renowned artists, Chantal Michel and Fernando F. Fonseca.

Nuearz's composition style involves reinterpreting synthesizer preset sounds and music samples as pure sound movements, liberated from their historical and contextual backgrounds. By combining sounds in ways never heard before, he awakens hidden contexts and fragments of history within the music, leading to the creation of new contexts.

His debut album for Mahorka, "Voices carry through history (Reincarnation and Topology)" (July 2025), features pieces with multiple vocal parts. The vocal samples used here are treated as instrumental sounds in the compositions, while the non-vocal parts are not merely some accompaniment; all parts resonate together to create new sounds and grooves, transforming and evolving, transcending eras and guiding us into new worlds.

This album is accompanied by a collection of video art pieces for the tracks, created simultaneously with the music and, in many instances, actually inspiring the musical soundtrack to them. These videos further complete the journey that transcends time and space.

The journey depicted here can be seen as history or reincarnation. It is also the memory of an individual and, at the same time, the collective memory of people. The visual expressions in the videos may seem to lack unity at first glance, but this itself reflects the history of expressive styles. Upon closer inspection, each video integrates multiple different eras, styles, and artistic movements. These intersections of different contexts reveal nodes where multiple worlds converge, opening doors to a pluralistic universe.

Through the retrospection of history and life, hidden contexts are discovered, and new contexts are generated, making it possible to unearth unknown worlds and expressions.

The journey has just begun.

Composed and produced by Kazuhiro Okuda
