With compaction #1, the Japanese synth drone artist Helu_elu and the German ambient/drone musician rsn present a joint work that captures the essence of the drone genre in a fascinating way - and breaks it up at the same time. Two long pieces form the backbone of this album, which is dedicated to deep reduction without losing any of its expressiveness.
compaction #1 is harmonious and lively, almost organic in its development. The sounds move in subtle layers, sometimes merging, sometimes flowing against each other. Despite (or perhaps because of) the focus on tonal repetition and minimal variation, an immersive sound field emerges that not only envelops the listener, but challenges them - with patience, depth and space.
Released September 19, 2025 as free (cc) digital download and in limited cassette edition.
